Battle of the Windmill National Historic Site - Prescott Ontario Canada - Wikipedia Entries on Waymarking.com

Windmill Point Lighthouse was constructed in the 1820's as a windmill. It served that purpose until 1838 when reformers seeking democratic reforms for Canada joined forces with sympathizers from New York to cross the Saint Lawrence and invade Prescott. The rebellion was able to gain control of the windmill. Eventually British troops and local militia retook the windmill. The building's use as a windmill was over. The site remained a military post.

There is a parking lot and the grounds are available for visitors. The building is open seasonally for tours (daily between July and August - weekends in June and September). There are historical markers located on the site displaying additional history of the building and grounds.
