Devils Homestead Crossing is part of the 'Devils Homestead' lava flow that passes through this scenic roadside lookout. There is no roadside sign mentioning this lava crossing but there IS an informative sign at this location that discusses the history of this area as well as showing a map of the lava flow crossing through this location (see default picture). The placard says the following:

Beds of Lava

Imagine watching hot lava flowing toward you at this spot over twelve thousand years ago. Like treads rolling on a tank, the clinkery, cooling front of the flow fell off and was run over by the hot molten core. The Devils Homestead flow, which erupted from Fleener Chimneys more than a mile south of here, provides an excellent example of rough a'a lava. More fluid pahoehoe lava leaves behind a smooth, ropy surface. The wide variety of eruptions here at Lava Beds and the abundant features left behind make this area an exceptional place to explore volcanic geology.

There is another scenic overlook further north called the Devils Homestead Overlook which provides a great view of the Devils Homestead lava flow through this area. The view of the lava flow through here at the crossing looks very primitive and there is very little vegetation or scenic points of interest. The view is black, sharp, and lifeless. If you look at this area on Google Maps you will notice that this lava flow stretches for miles and its expanse is pretty vast across this terrain in the high desert of northern California.
