This impressive block of taconite sits along Hwy 100 coming in to Aurora from the west. A bronze marker tells about this block:

“This billion year old 30 ton magnetic taconite block was provided by the LTV Mining Company, Hoyt Lakes, MN. This blast sample was extracted on June 2, 1992 from the 500 ft. thick Biwabik formation that extends 120 miles from Babbitt to Grand Rapids.”
