The Roadside America (link below) tells that this particular version of a muffler man has been a pizza chef in Framingham, MA, Uncle Sam at Mutual Ford in Springfield, MA, and now a Southern gentleman for the Plantation Inn along I-90.
Best view is from the interstate or the access road. If you drive into the motel parking lot, the best you get is a profile.
