In the centre of the good city of Surat Thani, in southern Thailand, a Chinese temple (whose name I cannot translate), contains a large statue of the benevolent bodhisattva/goddess Quanyin. This temple also contains a large bell, ~1m high, covered in Chinese characters, and residing inside a wooden frame. The bell is there to be rung by visitors to the temple, and, after a small donation (20 baht) you may have your swing. Three hits is the usual number.

Entry to the temple is unrestricted, and the statue is easily seen as you wander through the city.
