Wellsville Historic District consists of the major part of the village of Wellsville, along PA 74.
Wellsville Borough's present use if its buildings are for commerical, educational, industrial, religious, and private residence. The village is still relatively isolated from urban influences as the cities of York, Carlisle, and Harrisburg are all over a half an hour drive away.
The Methodist Church, (see photo) at 368 Main Street was founded in 1782, with the church being built in 1852.
The Wellsville Historic District is an example of a small village brought to life by the industrial groth of the 19th century, and then left by later technogical advanes.
The development of what is today Wellsville Borough, began with the Wells family, who bought the land from the original Quaker patentees. Wellsville was named for Abram Wells.
