Porto Alegre is now one of the most remote Santomean villages, located in the Southernmost part of the island of São Tomé, where the road ends and the jungle starts. But it wasn't always just a village. Until 1973, when the Portuguese conceded independent to Sao Tome and Principe, it was a huge plantation and this chimney was part of it. Unfortunately I don't have details about the exact usage of it. I can tell I visited many plantations in Sao Tome and Principe and this is the only one with such a chimney.
