A man comes out of the blue into Jeannie’s flat and announces that he is the reincarnation of Marty. He claims that he doesn’t remember much of how he came to be where he is, except to mention the Cumberland Hotel and a car crash. He is very convincing and Jeannie decides to string along with him for a while. The false Marty takes Jeannie to Woburn Abbey, one of Marty’s favourite places.. Marty is sure he’s met the guy before, but can’t remember where.
Jeff investigates the Cumberland Hotel and finds out that there was a car crash outside the Cumberland, but that the occupant of the car died. Jeff follows the false Marty who gets himself kidnapped by another pair of people who are also interested in the false Marty. Jeff intervenes in the kidnapping and the false Marty escapes. Jeff finds out from the other pair that there is a large amount of silver involved. It would appear that the pair and the false Marty pulled off a robbery and that the false Marty is holding out as to where the silver is.
The false Marty tales Jeannie to the Cumberland Hotel where Jeannie and Marty went on honeymoon. On the way he asks Jeannie about some woods nearby where Marty had a small car accident. It turns out that the silver is hidden in the woods, but the false Marty can’t remember where they are. Fooling Jeannie has been about finding the woods and the silver. Jeff manages to trace the woods also and the trio are arrested.
