Ovaltine started small scale production at its Kings Langley site in 1913. By the 1920s business increased and a purpose built factory was constructed in 1929. The building was designed by Sir Harry Hague, the company’s chairman, and built by C Miskin and Sons of St Albans.

The site for the factory was strategic, close to canals and railway. Coal was brought in by barge from Warwickshire on the Grand Union Canal. In addition to the factory, Ovaltine acquired two farms, Numbers Farm at Kings Langley and Parsonage Farm in Abbots Langley, to provide the raw ingredients for Ovaltine.

In 2002 Ovaltine moved production to Switzerland and the plant closed. The site has been re-developed as a housing complex. The 387 ft façade has been retained with an apartment complex built behind it.
