Native Americans and livestock drivers were some of the first to utilize Mosca Pass to cross the barrier of the Sangre de Cristos. Today, a 3.5 mile scenic hike through the canyon will take you from the trailhead at the Sand Dunes to the pass. Alternatively, you can drive from the east along CR-583 all the way to the top.
