The U. S. Steel Fountain was built in 1974 and is located in the U. S. Steel Plaza in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The fountain was designed by J. S. Hamel Engineering of Burbank, California who also designed several fountains for the Disney Corporation. The circular pool is 60-feet in diameter and has 72-jet around the outer ring. The central jet can project its geyser to a maximum height of 6-stories. Underwater illumination allows for a variety of special lighting effects. Automatic sensors adjust the height of the jets according to wind speed and direction. U. S. Steel Plaza is located at 600 Grant Street in the heart of Pittsburgh.
