The pedestal is from granite and on its four sides there are the emblems of Castille, Leon, Granada and Aragon in bronze.
In the front there is a dedication: “To Isabel the Catholic, during whose glorious reign the unification of the nation and the discovery of America were accomplished. The people of Madrid, 1883”.
The composition includes three bronze figures, Isabel the Catholic on a horse, the Chief Captain Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordova Aguilar and the Cardinal of Spain Pedro Gonzalez de Mendoza. Officially the monument is called: The apotheosis of Isabel the Catholic marching towards our national unity. Manuel Om y Canet was the sculptor who created the composition in 1883.
Isabel was the leader of the Spanish Empire during the time of the Discoveries.
