In Bilkent and METU campuses (in Turkey's capital Ankara) are many of roads and paths, but also a certain amount of tortoises - in this case probably Mediterranean Spur Thigh "Greek Tortoise" (Latin: Testudo graeca ibera), maybe also hybrids with Testudo marginata (local tortoises have really strongly bent carapace tiles, like the marginated tortoise). They live mainly near both (every one in different campuses) artificial water reservoirs, but they can also be found on the way through some road. I spotted one near Bilkent reservoir, helped one from road in METU campus and found three tortoise carapaces.

More about local tortoise species: (visit link) (Testudo graeca ibera) and (visit link) (Testudo marginata)

How often turtles cross:

Months most seen crossing: summer months to warm fall days (Ankara is place with desert weather, so summer is here longer :)

Visit Instructions:
Describe what happened. Example
"Mother Blanding had made her nest between the goldenrod and bluestem outside my window late last June.
By chance we were sitting on the porch when we noticed little blandings in the same location we had seen the mother take 2 months earlier."
