Long Description:This life-sized bronze sculpture is also a World War II memorial. On a granite bench engraved "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY," an elderly war veteran sits in deep thought. He is leaning on a cane with both hands, which are also holding some poppies and a small American flag. His brow is furrowed and you can feel the thoughts and memories which fill his head.
He is dressed in his uniform, with a cap showing 9183 and an insignia. His long coat, which is across his shoulders flows out behind him across the bench - a nice sculptured technique. A small bronze plaque reads:
Poppies
By Sandy Proctor
Purchased by Dr. Glen Ashmore

Edmond Visual Arts Commission
Dedicated April 2004
NOTE: Engraved into the veteran's coat, the artist's name is shown as "W. Stanley Proctor" while the plaque indicates the artist is Sandy Proctor. This sculpture is 8 out of a run of 30.
