Neo-gothic style building serving as the town offices in Cheektowaga, NY. The building was built in 1925.

Cheektowaga traces its roots to the local Erie Seneca First Nations who called it "JI IK DO WAH GA" or Place of the Crabapples.

Although formed in 1839 from the Town of Amherst asd an agricultural centre, the Town found its greatest notoriety as a transportation crossroads with the advent of the railroad. In the early part of the 20th century no fewer than 9 railroads had trackage in the town. The town also boasted 5 railroad stations as early as the 1890's.

The advent of air transportation and increased use of roads ensured the town's future success.

Today the town boasts a population of around 100,000 people.

The town hall cornerstone was laid in 1925. The building, located along Broadway street in Cheektowaga, was designed in the neo-classical style popular in the 1920s. The facade features 4 columns along the front entrance as well as high arched windows and doorways.

The Cheektowaga Police Department called the Town Hall home for many years. The original cell block consisted of 6 cells for men and 2 detention rooms, one of which was used to accomodate women.

There was also a courtroom in the building, as well as a Records and Archives section.

Of note is that the Town Hall was the first to receive a telephone switchboard to answer police calls in 1928.

Police and court services remained in the Town Hall until moving to a new facility in 1968.

Today, the Town Hall is still in service, conducting the administration of the Town of Cheektowaga.
