Zoey Redbird was attending SIHS in Broken Arrow when she was "marked" as a vampyre. It is not easy going through the change from human to vampyre, but moving to Tulsa's House of Night boarding school for vampyres would enable Zoey to have the support of other "fledglings" who were going through the same experience as her. Neferet is the stunningly beautiful and very kind vampyre who is Zoe's mentor at the school.

Betrayed (Book 2 in the series), begins one month into Zoe's stay at the House of Night. She has made friends, learned quite a bit of vampyre history through the classes she attends, and has become the leader of the Dark Daughters after it is revealed that the Goddess Nyx has bestowed upon Zoe the ability to call the elements.

She was attending that school at the time she was "marked" as a vampyre, and subsequently had to change to the vampyre boarding school in Tulsa. Here is a paragraph from page 27 in Marked that mentions SIHS: "Thanks," I said, and hurried out of the classroom feeling stupid. I would be so glad when I'd been at the school long enough to know all the little inside rules. And, anyway, I don't know what I'd been so worried about. The halls were deserted. Unlike my old high school (South Intermediate High School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma - which is a totally boring suburb of Tulsa) there were no Napoleon Complex, overly tanned vice principals with nothing better to do than to prowl the halls harassing kids.
