"2. The FEDERAL BUILDING (open 8-6 Mon.-Fri.; 8-12 Sat.), Court St. between Church and Cottage Sts., is of modern design and is constructed of Vermont marble, with a California granite base. The lower story which houses the post office, is 136 by 124 feet, and the upper story 50 feet square. The grounds are beautifully landscaped." -Oregon: End of the Trail, 1940
The former Federal Building still stands, today serving as office space for officials in the Oregon State Executive Branch. While the landscaping is still nice, much of it is now occupied by the Executive parking structure, which features above and below ground parking. Evidence of the Executive Building's former purpose is evident from the artwork along the top of the building that includes the seal of the US Treasury Department and the seal of the Post Office Department.
