The sundial is a flat horizontal circular plate impaled on the end of a miner's pickaxe that is in turn embedded in the rock monument containing the Time Capsule. The pick is symbolic of the mining heritage of the Kingman area and the sundial measures the passing of time until the Time Capsule is opened.

The sundial indicates relatively correct time. The accompanying photograph was taken at 7:22PM Mountain Daylight Savings Time or 6:22PM Arizona Standard Time and the shadow of the gnomon is somewhat past the 6:00PM line on the plate.

Sundial Type: Horizontal - Flat base, Ground or Pedestal mounted dial plate
