I located this benchmark after seeing it listed on a topography map as BM 4264. The benchmark is in great shape although the original wooden witness post has burned down to the base from a fire that spread through the area in 2005.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 7.5 MI SE FROM INDIAN WELLS. 5.9 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG A PAVED ROAD FROM THE INDIAN WELLS RANGER STATION, THENCE 1.6 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG A DIRT ROAD, ON THE EAST SIDE OF A RIDGE, IN THE TOP OF A 4- BY 3-FOOT ROCK OUTCROP, 78 1/2 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 67 FEET NORTH OF THE EAST END OF THE NORTH CUT BANK, 36.6 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF A 4- BY 8-FOOT OUTCROP PROJECTING 4 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, AND ABOUT 3 FEET HIGHER THAN THE ROAD.
