« Qu’elle consiste en un ensemble de personnes apparentées vivant au quotidien les uns avec les autres. Parfois filiale, parfois amicale, parfois littéraire, parfois abstraite, la famille existe partout. Plus forte que tout, elle se forme souvent sans même avoir été recherchée. La Famille se régénère, refusant de disparaître. Surtout elle est douce, rassurante source d’immortalité. »
Cette sculpture de bronze coulé a exigé près de 8 mois de réalisation puisque la conception de ce type de sculpture exige plusieurs étapes. Une fois le modèle conçu, il faut prendre une empreinte à la fonderie qui sera sectionnée en 12 parties pour être rassemblée pièce par pièce. Les pièces doivent être nettoyées, sablées, ajustées et finalement, soudées entre elles. À la toute fin, une couleur est appliquée à la sculpture, dans le cas présent, une patine verte.
Le sculpteur Richard Klode, originaire de la région de la Mauricie, habite Boucherville depuis plus de 30 ans. Des pièces de l'artiste font partie de collections privées un peu partout dans le monde et il est le concepteur derrière le trophée Artis remis aux artistes de la télévision québécoise.
La Ville de Boucherville a dévoilé en septembre 2009 son œuvre en bronze dans le parc Vincent-D'Indy, près du centre multifonctionnel.
La mairesse d'alors de Boucherville, Francine Gadbois, a rappelé que l'artiste avait été choisi au terme d'un concours de plus d'un an. «Les membres du jury ont eu un coup de cœur pour l'œuvre de M. Klode, qui rejoint deux thèmes chers à la municipalité, la culture et la famille. L'adoption de notre politique familiale en est la preuve. Le parc Vincent-d'Indy et le centre multifonctionnel représentent également des lieux de culture et d'activités familiales. »
L'artiste s'est dit honoré d'avoir été choisi et a souligné qu'il avait mis huit mois à peaufiner son œuvre, inspirée d'une photo d'une famille prise à Boucherville. «Sous les personnages, on aperçoit trois profils, qui représentent ceux qui vont prendre notre place», a-t-il expliqué.
La Famille pèse plus de 1000 livres et le socle 2 tonnes.
Un budget de 40 000$ à été alloué à l'artiste pour la réalisation de cette œuvre.

This bronze sculpture cast demanded nearly eight months since completion of the design of this type of sculpture requires several steps. Once the model is developed, one must make an impression at the foundry to be cut into 12 parts to be assembled piece by piece. The parts must be cleaned, sanded, fitted, and finally welded together. At the very end, a color is applied to the sculpture, in this case, a green patina.
The sculptor Richard Klode, from the Mauricie region, has lived in Boucherville for over 30 years. Pieces of the artist are in private collections around the world and he is the designer behind the Artis trophy awarded to Quebec's television artists.
The city of Boucherville unveiled in September 2009 his work in bronze in the park Vincent D'Indy, near the multifunctional cultural center.
The then mayor of Boucherville, Francine Gadbois, said that the artist was chosen after a contest of over a year. "The jury had a heart for the work of Mr. Klode, which joins two themes of the municipality, culture and family. The adoption of our family policy is proof. The park Vincent d'Indy and multifunctional cultural center are also places of cultural and family activities."
The artist said he was honored to have been chosen and noted that he took eight months to refine his work, inspired by a photo of a family caught in Boucherville. "Under the characters, we see three profiles, which represent those who will take our place," he said.
The Family weighs more than 1000 pounds and the stand weighs 2 tons.
A budget of $ 40,000 was allocated to the artist for the realization of this work.
