The Eastern Promenade includes “Fort Allen Park”, and sits atop Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine. The park consists of 68 acres of greenspace and providing outstanding views of the Casco Bay and the marine traffic there. The park was originally used to protect the harbor of Portland, as early as 1814. In 1905, the famous Olmstead Brothers were contracted to transform Fort Allen into a park, and became known as the “Eastern Promenade”. Today, the Promenade is the home to numerous monuments and memorials and the location of many civic functions each year. It also serves as a prime recreation destination for nearby city dwellers.
