Since 2003, this statue stands next to the house where Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine lived during his childhood between 1813 and 1822. The house was not in this park when he lived in it. It was moved in parc De La Broquerie when the town needed the land where it was originally for the church's parking.
The statue is made of bronze and shows Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine about 15 or 25 percent larger then life, holding his famous "Responsable government" speech, part of which is reproduced on the plinth, and wearing a bow-tie, a double-breasted vest, a long coat and pants.
The original of this statue is now located on Place de l'Assemblée nationale, in Québec city, where it was re-installed in 2003, after being first installed in 1921, and temporarely moved to Boucherville in 1982.
It is a sculpture by Henri Hébert, the son of the great Louis-Philippe Hébert.
