Harrowing would further break down sod and lumps of soil, providing an improved seedbed. Harrows were also used for various other purposes, such as light weeding before the crop emerged, spreading straw in summerfallow or light tillage in summerfallow. The tines on this particular harrow, (AKA spike toothed harrow) being angled on the bottom, suggest that it was used for light cultivation. No name plates or casting marks were found, so manufacturer is unknown.
