The dedicated tree and plaque are located in front of the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Headquarters in Kanata, Ontario. It is easily accessible from a city sidewalk located in very close proximity. While the waymark is on private property, the public is welcomed to visit the plaque as well as another memorial located on site. The Royal Canadian Legion is a newly built building and the addition of both the plaque and monument are excellent additions to the property of an organization that supports war veterans. An inuksuk and a mosaic of the Royal Canadian Legion badge are also located on site.
The text on the plaque reads as follows:
"Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and
Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven
Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven planted this tree during their official visit to Canada in May 2010 as a token of their appreciation for the pivotal role that brave Canadian men and women in uniform played in the liberation of the Netherlands in 1944-45.
2010 marks 65 years of special bonds between Canada and the Netherlands. This tree symbolizes the strength of the ties between our two countries. As it grows, it will serve to remind us of our shared history while we shape our common future.
