Operation "AMHERST"
"Du ciel la liberté"
This monument was established in 1985, to commemorate the 33 killed French SAS paratroopers, during "AMERTHIST" (7-14 April 1945) gave their lives for our freedom.
During this operation, 700 French paratroopers landed at 47 different locations, mainly in Drenthe layers. In fierce fighting the Germans mat, they paved the way for the Canadian-Polish offensive that followed a few days later.
Let us never forget their brave deeds.
