In this small cemetery are buried members of a pioneer family that settled this land in the 1820s. Many descendants still live in this area. Here lies Peter Wilhelm, who in 1827 or 1829 acquired Private Claim 49, an old French ribbon farm whose origins dated back into the 1700s. This land was part of that farm. Here are buried Peter's faher, Nicholas, progenitor of the Wilhelm family in the United States; Peter's wife, Salome; their son Peter, Jr., and their granddaughter Adeline Reves. Others are buried here, but their names are now unknown. Since 1948 this site has been maintained by Melvindale as a historic site, possibly the oldest in the immediate vicinity of Detroit unchanged from its original use.

Visit Instructions:Take a photo of your GPS at the marker. We'd prefer a photo of you with your GPS, but we realize that sometimes that's just not possible or preferable.
Also include a bit about your visit to the marker.
NEW: Instructions for logging Missing Marker Visits.
If the Marker is missing, but still listed here, you must provide a photo of you at the actual item historically honored. (This should be the waymark's "default" image). Indicate in your log that you took your photo at the Historical Location instead of the marker, because the marker was missing. Please also still include a bit about your visit to the site.
