Bryce Canyon is named after Ebenezer Bryce, a Mormon pioneer who had built a logging road into the area in the 1870s.
Many areas of Utah look like the surface of another planet in science fiction movies and Bryce is no exception. Erosion has shaped the brightly colored limestone into a dazzling array of slot canyons, windows, arches, fins and the bizzare shaped spires called 'hoodoos' which can be seen on the stamp.
The stamp is part of a long standing series showing scenic American landscapes and paying various international airmail rates.
