The simple sign marking where the Lander Cutoff crosses a rural road is located about 0.2 miles east of US Highway 89 on McCoy Road.

The Lander Cutoff, surveyed in 1857, provided emigrant pioneers an easier path between Sweetwater City, Wyoming and Ross Creek, Idaho. This federally funded and constructed road cut seven days off the travel time for this portion of the Emigrant Trail.

How you discovered it:
I was searching for another Historical Marker for this same Trail when I saw this simple marker alongside a rural road.

This new route shortened travel time by as much as seven days for emigrant pioneers traveling through on the California and Oregon Trails.


Directions:
About 13 miles south of Afton on US Highway 89 then 0.2 miles east on McCoy Road.
