"Ampass stellt eine besondere Form der Urpfarre dar: War zuerst die Gemeinde der Mutterpfarre Ambras zugeteilt, so wurde infolge der Zerstörung der dortigen Schlosskapelle 1133 die Pfarre in die „Capella Regia“ der Befestigung Burgsteig verlegt. Zum Pfarrgebiet gehörten zu dieser Zeit: Ampass, Pradl, Rinn, Tulfes, Amras und Aldrans.
1245 wurde die Pfarre dem Stift Wilten unterstellt. Schon sehr früh konnten sich diese Teile der Pfarrei verselbständigen: 1703 traten Pradl, 1721 Rinn und Tulfes und 1765 Amras aus dem Verband aus.
Um 1000 nach Christus wird die Schlosskapelle der reichsunmittelbaren Burg in Ampass erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Aufgrund des Verfalls der Burganlage blieb die Kirche allein auf dem Hügel bestehen. 1426 wurde ein neuer gotischer Bau fertig gestellt und eingeweiht, welcher 1546 im 30 jährigen Krieg durch Truppen verwüstet und durch einen Brand 1567 beinahe vollständig zerstört wurde. 1574 war der Bau aber wiederhergestellt worden und wurde in diesem Jahr geweiht. 1698 wurde wiederum die Kirche beinahe vollständig dem Erdboden gleichgemacht, diesmal durch ein Erdbeben; sie wurde aber wiederhergestellt. 1744 wurde das Gotteshaus wie viele andere in Tirol zu dieser Zeit auch, barockisiert. 1717 bestellte die Pfarre eine neue Glocke, welche für den bisherigen Glockenturm zu schwer war. Aus diesem errichtete man einen Neuen, welcher 1739 fertig gestellt wurde. Trotzdem kam es mit der Glocke zu zwei Unglücken, so fiel sie 1857 und 1901 herunter, wobei sie beim zweiten Unglück einen Knecht tötete." - Quelle: (
