Named in memorial to a local actress who died tragically in a plane crash, the design is derived from one re-worked from two other cities--which two depends the source you read. The focus of the design is a 40 ft high circular, revolving stage that is divided into thirds. This allows for one set to be on-stage, one to be struck, and one set up for the next scene. The theater seats 404 people in 11 rows.
The theater was about a quarter complete when Wright died. Taliesin Architects supervised completion and has designed several modifications over the years including a rehearsal hall, office and enclosing the terrace above the foyer.
The theater is open for visits during regular business hours when no production is in rehearsal.
Note: The majority of performances have been moved to a new theatre beginning in 2009. Select performances and regional theatre groups still use the theatre.
