In Windsor, as you approach the center of town from the south via US 5 is a painted welcome sign on the west side of the road.

The sign is a smallish sign painted mostly white. There is an oval with a painting of Mt. Ascutney, with blue sky above the mountain, and trees in the foreground. The rest of the sign has the following text: in gold letters - "Windsor;" in white letters against green: "Birthplace of Vermont 1777."

I don't have any other information concerning when it was installed or who the artist was.

Mt. Ascutney is a dominent landscape featurein this town. It rises to 3144 ft in height and is protected by the Ascutney State Park.

Windsor considers itself the birthplace of Vermont since the first charter for the Vermont was written in a tavern within the town - now the Constitution House, a museum.
