"This statue is known as "The Iron Duke (Duke of Wellington) in bronze by Steele".
The statue sits in front of Register House and face south, looking down North Bridge.
While the famous Iron Duke always gets top billing, his noble steed rarely gets a mention. It’s time Wellington’s horse, Copenhagen, deservedly got his rightful share of the limelight.
Copenhagen was a 15 hands chestnut stallion who faithfully carried Wellington around the field of Waterloo for 18 hours on the day of the battle.
He was 28 years old when he died in 1836 and was buried with full military honours at the Duke’s country estate at Stratfield Saye."
