On the pub sign is a blue boar with insignia behind him and a knight's helmet.
The name is a popular one in Poole as the nearby Lord Nelson was also formerly known as The Blue Boar; it was renamed in 1810. However, there is no coincidence as the landlord of The Lord Nelson used to live in the building we see here. He was Stephen Adey from the well known local family.
