This simple plaque set above the 2nd floor of a stone building states that a few rods east was the location of the house of Roger Williams, founder of Providence.

In Providence, along Main Street, is a bronze plaque over the 2nd floor of a stone house. The plaque has the following text on it:
"A few rods east of this spot stood the house of Roger Williams founder of Providence 1636."
The plaque is located on a stone house, facing Main Street, near the corner with Howland Street. The plaque is set about the center of the building over the 2nd floor windows.
A rod is 16 1/2 feet. So, a 'few' rods is perhaps about 50 ft or maybe 100 feet from that location, presumably along Howland Street. There was a U-Tube video that showed where he was buried, about halfway down the road.
I could find little information about the exact location of the house. Across the street is the Roger Williams National Monument, which is said to be the place where the original settlement of Providence was located. The history page on this site briefly discusses this location. Another web site found, Quahog.org, explores the story further and attempts to sift fact from fiction.
