This marker was placed in 1948 by the Marine Corps League of Greater Johnstown to remember the sacrifice that the veterans of WWII gave to their country. The marker, simple for a city of this size (and it was larger then) is located on a city lot near the city hall and is a simple statue with a American Flag raised and on one (left) raised side the words: In reverent and enduring memory
of all Americans who fought for
a new world of freedom and peace
On the other (right) side, it states: They counted not their lives
dear unto themselves
Following this it states who placed the marker (as mentioned above)
Standing in front of the memorial is a actual American Flag and a lawn ornament that has the seals of each branch of the armed forces.
