In Providence, on College Hill, is the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Providence.
The church is located at the corner of Prospect and Meeting Streets. The building is roughly square with an ornate dome at the top. The entrance, facing Prospect Street, has several tall columns supporting a short roof extension. Tall, narrow multi-paned windows are on three sides.
The architects were Howard Hoppin and Frederick Field. Fred Field was a local architect who was the designer of structures and landscapes in the Providence area, including the Menagerie Building at the Roger Williams Park and the Helen Hudson Houses in Providence and the Filtration Works in Montreal, Canada.
Services are held on Sunday at 10:30, while the Wednesday Testimony Meeting is at 7:30. The reading room is located in downtown Providence at 136 Westminster Street.
The dome, perched on the summit of College Hill, easily rises above the trees and is visible from several points in Providence, including the Rhode Island State Capitol.
