A zinc spire mounted on three zinc plinths on a large concrete base. The lower plinth is simulated stone. The upper two plinths contain symbols, epitaphs and the dedication to William RAND. The obelisk spire is draped with curtains and is topped with a vase. The headstone is about 6 feet high.

Willian RAND was born 20 Dec 1815 and is the son of Jonathan RAND and Elizabeth SWEET. He married on 17 Feb 1852 Kingsport, Kings Co. Nova Scotia to Diadema “Anna” TUPPER, born 12 Apr 1822, died Mar 1909, Canning, Kings Co., Nova Scotia.

William RAND’s father, Johnathan RAND was born 8 Sep 1767, Nantucket, Nantucket Co., MA, USA, died, 5 Jul 1818, North Alton, Nova Scotia. He is the son of Jonathan RAND, b. 12 Feb 1738, Tisbury, Dukes Co. MA and Lydia STRONG b. 24 Apr 1748 in Coventry, Tolland Co. CT.
William RAND’s mother, Elizabeth SWEET born 2 Aug 1779, died May 4, 1855 at age 75, Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was the daughter of Theophilus SWEET and Eleanor TURNER.
Hillaton Cemetery:
The Hillaton Cemetery is administered by the Board of Trustees of Trinity United Church, Canning, Nova Scotia. Sir Frederick W. Borden, 1847-1917 is buried in Hillaton Cemetery.
