There has been a church in Caldbeck since 1118, although the location was on the site of the present rectory. The arch to the porch was the original chancel arch from the early church. The present church was built in the late 12th, early 13th century. The tower is a later addition, dating to 1727. The church was restored in 1880, and again in 1932.

The church is constructed of mixed sandstone blocks with flush sandstone quoins, topped by a green slate roof. The church comprises a nave, chancel, North and South aisles, a West tower and a South porch.
