Chama is best known as being the western terminus of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The entire town bases most of its economy on the tourist traffic generated by this excursion railroad that crisscrosses the Colorado/New Mexico border seven times before reaching its destination in Antonito, Colorado.
