Nong Khai city is found on the northern border of Thailand, just across the Mekong River from the nation of Laos. In the year 2009 a rail link was established between the two countries. This event was witnessed and inaugurated by the daughter of the King of Thailand, HRH Maha Princess Chakri Sirhindhorn. In the Nong Khai city train station, just inside the main entrance, is a glassed off area that contains memorabilia of the opening of this rail link.
This memorabilia includes the train bell rung by the Princess, along with the furniture and accoutrements used in the ceremony. The bell looks to be the standard Thai train station bell, though well polished. Direct access is not possible, but the bell is clearly visible from inside the station. Entry to this area of the station is unrestricted.
