Contentnea Creekside RV and Trail Park is a parcel of land (maybe 3 to 5 acres?) along a river. Most of the RV sites (at least 10) have water, sewer and electric...all for the unheard of 2012 price of $10 per night! There are numerous primitive camp sites also available (call for rates). Picnic tables are placed throughout the campground. There is a restroom trailer with four locking doors (campers are issued a key during their stay). A walking path circles the campground. There are swings and poles for a volley ball net (no net). Many of the trees in the campground are marked with their common and botanical names. The campground entrance is gated and the area is patrolled by the Grifton Police Department.
The Grifton Police Department handles camp site registrations at their store-front office located at 6881-B South Highland Boulevard in Grifton (phone: 252-524-4161, N35 22.468, W077 26.358, by Piggly Wiggly). After hours, a wall phone in the police department lobby directly contacts an officer on patrol and the officer will respond to meet you to handle your reservation.
The property on the opposite side of the river from the campground is also a municipal park. There is a boat ramp and a place to fish.
If you are taking a break during a long journey or just need a quiet, affordable place to escape to, this may be the place for you!
I do not recall seeing a picnic shelter or any other buildings at this site other than a restroom trailer (we were in a self-contained RV so we did not use it). I do not know if the restroom trailer includes shower(s). Call Grifton Police for further details.
