Citizens Bank on the town square in Burnsville NC is a classic example of commercial architecture, an imposing building projecting stability, a bank too big to fail. But fail it did. The recent history of this building is as the Yancey County Public Library. But even the local library has abandonned the limiting historical building and now occupies a larger modern building on the outskirts of town. The historical Citizens Bank building on the town square is currently vacant.
There is a First Citizens Bank in a modern shopping center a couple of blocks south. Are these banks connected? I do not know.
