The park is on the grounds of the former Brooklands School No. 1440 (
visit link) that was used as a school until 1967 but wasn't demolished until 2009. Brooklands School, 1950 Pacific Avenue is on the south side of the park.

Brooklands Park was planned, designed and built as a direct result of the cooperation of the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba, City of Winnipeg, St, James-Assiniboia School Division #2 and the tireless efforts of the residents of Brooklands.
