This well-maintained Statue and Shrine was built in 1934 by Father Ernest Bossus (pastor of St. Dorothy's Catholic Church from 1926 to 1935) on a knoll across the road from what is now Old Crossing Treaty State Park.
~ text from the plaque on the Shrine ~ This Shrine erected in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Rev. E. Bossus in 1934 in thanksgiving for temporal and spiritual favors received. Ask and you shall receive.
A nearby bronze plaque donated by Henry P. Hout & family in 1935 reads: "Glory be to God in the highest and on earth. Peace to men of good will".
The village of Dorothy is five miles north and Dorothy's parishioners still gather annually for services at the Shrine.
In Christianity, Mary was the mother of Jesus. Her story is told in the New Testament of the Bible (
