In Needham, off Central Avenue, is Claxton Field, which has a children's playground.

Claxton Field is located about a quarter mile south of the intersection of Central Avenue and Marked Tree Road, and is across the street from the transfer station (formerly the dump-in fact, Claxton Field is over the original dump). Most of Claxton Field is covered by two softball fields to the east of the parking lot. The playground is located to the south of the parking lot.

Equipment at the playground includes a swing set, a combination climbing and sliding area, some things that looked like stepping pads, and a large sand box. The sand box has a cement turtle in its center, and is filled with toys, especially construction equipment. This may be due to the fact that the transfer station is across the street and many of these toys may have been 'donated' rather than end up on the way to the incinerator.

The playground is sponsored by the Needham Exchange Club, a local organization that does many things for the town including holding the 4th of July events. This playground was established in 2007 and that it was a 60th Anniversary Project for the Exchange Club.

About the restrooms. There are restrooms at the location, off the north end of the parking lot. They were supposed to be open at the time that I was there but they were not. I am guessing that they are only open when there is a known event such as a ball game. So, I would not depend on expecting them to be open, and, thus the 'I don't know' rating below.

The playground is open during daylight hours. No admission is required.
