The 49th Street Galleria opened in 1983. After many years, it went broke and became the Utah Fun Dome. One night there was a gang-related shooting at the Fun Dome, which went under lockdown as the police investigated and no one was allowed to leave. After the shooting, the Fun Dome was never the same as people never really returned.
The 170,000-square-foot structure was also briefly home to Salt Lake Valley College and to the Grand Buffet restaurant.
Gone are the go-karts, laser tag, air hockey tables and amusement rides. Gone are the bowling alley, miniature golf courses inside and outside the building, and bungee jumping.
Listed as #319 in the Remembering Lost & Forgotten Roadside Tourist Attractions & Amusement Parks On The West Coast.
