The table was funded as part of the Millenium celebrations although not installed until 2002. It was designed and made by Mick Kirkby-Geddes who is a sculptor who uses everyday objects and scrap metal to create his own personal style of work.
The original inspiration for the piece was the Huddersfield Narrow Canal that runs through the town and has the longest, highest and deepest tunnel in Britain.
After speaking to local people he widened the scope to show the whole of Marsden set in its location. The canal and the nearby railway can be seen, together with their tunnels entering the hillside.
The nearby hills are also portrayed complete with a fisherman and backpackers.
The table's obviously not to scale but gives a realistic impression of the things you will see around you.
The table is located outside the pub called The Riverhead Brewery Tap, next to the River Colne.
