Incorporated in 1866, the City of Scio (pronounced SIGH-oh), population 838 (2010 Census) straddles Thomas Creek in northern Linn County. The city proclaims itself “The Covered Bridge Capital of the West” due to the five nearby covered bridges. The town was named by an early settler after his hometown, Scio, Ohio.

The Linn County Lamb & Wool Fair, one of the oldest fairs in Oregon, is held annually in Scio during the third weekend in May. The event features sheep shows, fiber arts and crafts and the Northwest Champion Sheep Dog Trials.
