The Wamscott Lodge #39 of the Improved Order of Red Men is located at 11 Franklin Street in Stoneham, MA - a northern suburb of Boston. The have occupied the present location for about 10 years. Before that they were located nearby on Washington Street.
As I was photographing the building the members invited me inside to view the lodge. They have about 300 members from the surrounding Stoneham and nearby communities. They are quite proud of their history, especially the prized totem pole that once stood outside the previous lodge. They also are involved in community work and charities. They raise funds to provide college scholarships to high school students. Among their social activities are their championship pool and bowling teams. Many trophys, some won at the national level, are displayed in the lodge.
