EN: The Hülftendenkmal is an obelisk of red sandstone in a grove north of the cemetery Egg in Frenkendorf. It commemorates the Battle of 3 August 1833, where the attacking troops of the city of Basel were defeated by the rebels from the back-country, what sealed the separation of the canton of Basel.

In particular, the monument is a memorial for the 30-year high court clerk Henry Hug, who died at this location. He was posthumous appointed the first honorary citizen of the new canton of Basel-Land.

The monument was inaugurated on 26 April 1836, but got more and more forgotten in the next few years and fell into disrepair. In 1922 the monument was restored and provided with additional plaques. In the 1930s, the monument was threatened by the clay extraction in the Grien quarry until the State purchased the land in 1935 to protect the landscape and the monument.

DE: Das Hülftendenkmal ist ein Obelisk aus rotem Sandstein in einem Wäldchen nördlich des Friedhofs Egg in Frenkendorf. Es erinnert an die Schlacht vom 3. August 1833, wo an dieser Stelle die angreifenden Stadtbasler Truppen von den aufständischen Landschäftlern vernichtend geschlagen wurden, was die Trennung des Kantons Basel besiegelte.

Insbesondere ist das Monument auch ein Denkmal für den den 30-jährigen Obergerichtsschreiber Heinrich Hug, der an dieser Stelle fiel und posthum zum ersten ehrenbürger des neuen Kantons Basel-Landschaft ernannt wurde.

Das Denkmal wurde am 26. April 1836 eingeweiht, geriet aber in den nächsten Jahren immer mehr in Vergessenheit und verfiel zusehends. 1922 wurde das Denkmal renoviert und mit zusätzlichen Schrifttafeln versehen. In den 1930er Jahren war das Denkmal durch den Megelabbau in der Griengrube gefährdet, bis der Kanton 1935 das Gelände kaufte, um das Landschaftsbild und das Denkmal zu schützen.
